Karen Argetsinger Joins Zeytoonian Center for Dispute Resolution as Of Counsel
- Mediator and collaborative attorney brings deep family, elder, probate and health law expertise to Center -
Wellesley Hills and Westborough, Mass. – April 14, 2009 – The Zeytoonian Center for Dispute Resolution, a new center that offers alternatives to resolving disputes in court, announced today that Karen Argetsinger has joined the Center as Of Counsel.
Argetsinger is a mediator and collaborative attorney concentrating her practice in family, probate, health, employment and elder law. She also brings an interest in medical and healthcare-related cases and commitment to medical-legal partnerships to the Center.
The conventional process of litigation in a family law, elder law or probate matter can create stress and drive the parties in dispute away from each other. The more families wish to preserve relationships and have interests such as the preservation of estates, family resources and privacy in common, the greater the benefits they will derive from the collaborative process. The collaborative process offers the parties in the case the opportunity to work together with the assistance of collaboratively trained lawyers, financial and other relevant professionals. By working together the parties are able to maintain control of their case, their relationships, and the outcome.
“Karen’s expertise in family law is an important asset to the Zeytoonian Center,” said founding partner Michael Zeytoonian. “More and more, families are looking for alternatives to litigating family conflicts such as divorce, custody, elder care and probate. Mediation, Collaborative Law and other Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) techniques are particularly helpful when those involved in the conflict want to avoid the financial and emotional cost associated with litigated dispute resolution and have family in common to whom they wish to remain connected. Not only Karen’s experience in this area, but also her energy, passion and commitment to the collaborative law process, enables us to tailor a specific Alternative Dispute Resolution approach to address each family’s needs.”
Argetsinger also practices at Hutchings, Barsamian, Mandelcorn and Zeytoonian, LLP as Of Counsel. Her over sixteen years of legal background include law firm experience at Hale and Dorr, LLP (currently Wilmer Hale) and Warner & Stackpole, LLP (currently Kirpatrick & Lockhart, LLP) along with experience as a law clerk and independent consultant. She was a judicial intern for over a year with the United States District Court Magistrate Honorable Judith Dein.
Argetsinger has a special interest in child advocacy and health policy and has worked to has worked to help establish, along with family members and a group of extraordinary pediatricians throughout the United States, the John E. Lewy Foundation for Children’s Health (subsidiary of American Society of Pediatric Nephrology). She is currently involved with Boston Medical Center’s Medical-Legal Partnership program.
“Not every health issue has a purely medical remedy,” said Argetsinger. “A child can be treated for asthma, but if he or she returns to mold or pest-infested housing, the child cannot breathe symptom-free. By integrating lawyers into a health setting, medical-legal partnerships help patients navigate the complex government and community systems that can provide resources to address non-medical factors that determine health, such as utility shut-off protection during cold winter months or nutritional support for food-insecure families. This essential and effective collaborative approach is consistent with the collaborative law mission.”
A resident of Needham, Mass., Argetsinger is active in the Massachusetts Collaborative Law Council, the Women’s Lawyers Network and the Women’s Bar Association. Argetsinger is also a member of the Newton Needham Chamber of Commerce, the Massachusetts Bar Association and the Boston Bar Association.
Ms. Argetsinger received her Bachelor of Science at Tulane University in 1988 and her JD from Massachusetts School of Law in 2007. She is admitted to practice in Massachusetts and the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts.
